Released in 2006, Cars is an animation film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. In a world of anthropomorphic vehicles, a three-way tie in the final race of the Piston Cup Championship is just around the corner. The retired veteran, Strip “The King” Weathers, infamous runner-up Chick Hicks and rookie Lightning McQueen battle for the top prize in the tiebreaker race that is only a week away. Lightning is desperate to win the race since a win would make him the first rookie to win a championship and also allow him to exit the Rust-Eze sponsorship. He would also replace The King at the lucrative Dinoco team.
Characters in the film include:
Lightning McQueen: A Chevrolet with a mixture of elements from the Corvette C6 and a C1. McQueen is the protagonist in Cars.
Mack: A 1985 Mack Super-Liner bearing license plate “RUSTEZ3”. A dedicated member of the Rust-Eze Medicated Bumper Ointment team tasked with transporting McQueen.
Rusty and Dusty Rust-Eze: The Rust-Eze brothers, owners of Rust-Eze, the team that sponsors Lightning and gave him his “big break.” Rusty is a 1963 Dodge Dart and Dusty a 1967 Dodge A100.
Strip “The King” Weathers: One of the race cars in the Piston Cup three-way tie. It is an anthropomorphic version of NASCAR’s Richard Petty 1970 Plymouth Superbird, sporting the same shade of blue and number (43) as Petty’s original car.
Lynda Weathers/Mrs. The King: Similar in design to a station wagon used in the 1970s to take the Petty’s family to “The King’s” races.
Chick Hicks: A generic Pixar design that strongly resembles a GM G-body with features from both the Chevrolet Monte Carlo and the Buick Grand National. Hicks is the main antagonist in the film.
